As someone apparently once said, I married the Thermomix, and we re still on honeymoon! Ne er have truer words been spoken, and for me, life with my super machine is still very rosy, and I m just as chuffed (happy) with my machine as the first time I laid eyes (and hands) on it. And the message is reinforced whenever I spot a professional chef using it on TV it helps me feel professional!

In fact, few of my friends here in Penang are now sharing in my enthusiasm, and having seen how wonderful it is, and the results, have invested in their own machines, so we are becoming a small, elite group who swap recipes, meals and stories about our mastery of the machine every small step forward is recounted with pride. In fact, we ve become rather competitive about the dishes we churn out!

The other day, I decided to try out a few more recipes. And whilst I was at it, why not have a few friends round to partake of the results. Having said that, it s one thing to throw a few things into the Thermomix and plonk it in front of my dear old husband Mac, who is quite happy with a simple one-pot meal (it s brilliant for that) with hardly any washing up to do after, but quite another to cook for friends, however casual it may be. So before I knew it, I was into starters and desserts as well. Hmmm & had I bitten off more than I could chew?

As it turned out, it was a doddle. Thermomix doesn t just make my life easier; it makes me into a Superchef! Good as it is for run-of-the-mill home cooking, it is, dare I say it, even better for special dishes, and believe me, I was trying out recipes that I d previously thought was only possible if you were a professional in the f&b industry with years of experience under your belt.

A quick flick through the online recipes from enthusiastic Thermomix fans all round the world will give you a good idea of what to cook: there are thousands! The only problem I had was when to stop I wanted to make everything! In the end, I decided to go western: Oxtail Soup to start with, a Roast Tenderloin for the main course, and for dessert, a very impressive but incredibly simple to make Crème Brulee.

I love making soup on my Thermomix; it s simple, delicious and healthy, and the oxtail wasn t any different. See attached recipe and it doubled up as a steamer for the beef, thus saving cooking time and energy!

Finally, I did something I would probably never have attempted without the machine: Crème Brulee (recipe courtesy of http://www.ukthermomix.com/recshow.php?rec_id=28) which took literally minutes. The mixture did curdle, but I was able to rescue it (see recipe). I don t have a blowtorch though, so just stuck the ramekins under a hot grill for 5 mins then chilled them after.

Although I, rather immodestly, believe I am a fast worker, a meal like would have taken a few hours to produce. However, with my trusty kitchen helper, Thermomix, I was in the kitchen in total for just over an hour, and much of that I spent playing with the games on my mobile phone!

Needless to say, the meal was a resounding success. The food looked (and tasted) professional; Mac was delighted, and my friends were all suitably impressed. The soup was delicious, the meat was tender, as steaming by Varoma kept it moist and juicy, and the Crème Brulee was, even if I say so myself, tres delicieux! I excelled myself. Thermomix didn t just make cooking easier; it made me into a super cook! And let s face it: if I can do it, anyone can!
